Accompanist

"An excellent musician in everyway"

Jean Martyn ATCL LGSM

Harvey is a renowned for his accompaniment as an organist, pianist, and harpsichordist. He has worked with singers and instrumentalists both as a soloist and as part of an ensemble.

Most recently Harvey has been performing duo recitals with recorderist and flautist Charlotte Constantine at Blackburn Cathedral, St Faith’s Church, Crosby, St Bartholomew’s Church Wilmslow, St Laurence’s Church Chorley and Lancaster Priory. Upcoming duo concert venues include Romsey Abbey and Shrewsbury Abbey.

"The accompaniment was brought to life, with the use of various timbres on the instrument, without overpowering the soloist. This created a firm framework for the soloist and also allowed Charlotte, the soloist, to shine."

As a continuo player he has played with a variety of early music ensembles performing works from the 17th and 18th century. During his time at Coventry Cathedral, he set up and played in an ensemble to perform the Aria ‘If God be for us, who can be against us’ from Handel’s Messiah during a Eucharist service. He also performed on the harpsichord in a work with the same ensemble by Clerambault for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Historical Performance department concert in December 2021.

Caroline Loane, Soprano

"Harvey accompanied me for a competition final in which he played sensitively and musically across a broad range of repertoire. He was a very responsive accompanist, always listening and totally unfazed even when I had to stop and restart a song!

True professionalism."

"On a cold wintry evening I needed cheering up and on seeing an advert at St Chads Church for an Organ recital featuring a flute and recorder artist I decided to go.

I was not disappointed.

Harvey found every possible sound from the church organ , which his skills and mastery of the instrument filled the church with harmonious music.

He was particularly sensitive when accompanying the artist. He followed her extremely well, especially with expression and feeling which complimented her performance.

An excellent musician in every way."

"Having followed Harvey for the last couple of years, I have been impressed with him as an all-round musician. He is very well organised and totally focused on whatever he is about to do, and always looks very professional.
During his time as Organ Scholar at Coventry Cathedral, I was particularly impressed with Harvey's creativity during the Covid restrictions when only a Cantor was allowed. He organised and directed a Sunday Eucharist including a beautiful Aria from Handel's Messiah. His socially distanced musician friends came along with their recorders, violin, cello, with Harvey playing the chamber organ. Focusing on the positives during this challenging time was a notable achievement.
Whatever he chooses to do next, I know that Harvey will be successful."
