Harvey Stansfield is the Assistant Organist at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh, a position he commenced in September 2024. In this role, he accompanies the Cathedral choir for some of the weekly services and assists in the training of the choristers. Prior to his appointment at St Mary’s, he spent a year as Organ Scholar of Peterborough Cathedral where he had a major role in training the probationer choristers and accompanied the Cathedral choir for some of the daily services. Harvey holds the Associate Diploma of the Royal College of Organists and is in much demand as an accompanist, liturgical organist, and recitalist.

As a recitalist, he has performed across the United Kingdom including the Cathedrals of Birmingham, Coventry, Exeter, Blackburn, St Paul'sLeeds Minster, Shrewsbury Abbey and Tewkesbury Abbey

As an accompanist he has played for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Consort, Camerata choirs and the Aston University Music Society. Harvey has held Organ Scholarships at Blackburn and Coventry Cathedrals respectively where he assisted in the training of the choristers, playing regularly for services accompanying the Cathedral choir and an integral part of the music department.

As a choral conductor he studies with Sarah Tenant-Flowers and previously with Paul Spicer. Harvey has directed amateur and semi-professional singers in both secular and sacred contexts. He also founded the virtual choir Vox Ex Animo during the Covid-19 pandemic and the St Cecilia's Consort.

Harvey graduated with a BMus degree in organ performance from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in July 2023 where he studied the organ with Daniel Moult and Nicholas Wearne, harpsichord with Robin Bigwood and choral conducting with Sarah Tenant-Flowers. He received regular opportunities to have additional studies with Prof. Martin Schmeding and Nathan Laube. Harvey has also performed in masterclasses given by David Briggs, Eric Lebrun and Steven Devine.

Brought up on the Fylde coast, Harvey began his musical studies as a chorister with the RSCM Northern Cathedral Singers, directed by Gordon Appleton and as music scholar at Rossall School, Fleetwood, Lancashire. He was a significant part of many choir tours including at Westminster Abbey, York Minster, Dallas USA, and Malta. He was awarded the prestigious Sir Thomas Beecham Award for his services to the musical life of the school. In 2016 Harvey was awarded a scholarship to study organ and voice at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music. Harvey sang with the Blackburn Cathedral Singers as part of the BBC Midnight Mass broadcast (Christmas Eve 2022).
